Dhanbad: The Jharudih area under Dhanbad police station was jolted by a late-night firing incident on Thursday, triggering panic among residents of a local apartment complex. The firing has been allegedly linked to
Devendra Singh, a witness in the high-profile murder case of renowned coal trader Suresh Singh. Following the incident, police recovered more than two dozen live cartridges from Singh’s flat.
According to information, Devendra Singh resides on the first floor of the apartment. On Thursday night, he allegedly consumed alcohol with a few of his friends on the ground floor of the building. After this, he reportedly indulged in vandalism and created a ruckus inside the apartment premises. When a resident Rajesh Jha of the same apartment attempted to stop him, Devendra allegedly fired a shot aimed near the victim’s temple. Fortunately, the bullet missed its target, and the man narrowly escaped serious injury. The accused reportedly fled the spot soon after the incident.
The victim’s wife, Kanchan Jha, who witnessed the incident, said that Devendra often creates disturbances in the apartment after consuming alcohol. On Thursday night as well, he was heavily drunk and vandalising property. When her husband tried to intervene, Devendra allegedly took out a revolver and fired targeting Suresh’s temple.
Due to excessive intoxication, his aim faltered and the bullet passed close to the temple, saving her husband’s life, she said.
Rajesh Jha, sustained injuries in the incident. He said that after hearing loud noises, he came downstairs and saw Devendra Singh assaulting his driver with the butt of a gun. When Rajesh objected, Devendra allegedly fired at him. The bullet passed close to his left eye, causing an injury near the eye.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and recovered several empty cartridges. More than two dozen live bullets were seized from Devendra’s flat. Bullet marks were also found on luxury cars parked nearby, with shattered window panes indicating the intensity of the firing.
Dhanbad Police station in-charge Manoj Pandey confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Devendra Singh and four unidentified persons. He said police are conducting further investigation and efforts are on to trace and arrest the accused.
