In-laws arrested for torturing woman to death

Jamshedpur: A 34-year-old woman, Arti Devi, was allegedly tortured to death by her in-laws in Kitadih under Pursudih police station limits of Jamshedpur. The police arrested Arti's mother in-law Urmila Devi and Urmila's daughter Kanchan Mala. Kanchan's minor son, who is accused of aiding her mother in assaulting Arti, has been forwarded to the remand home.Earlier, on Dec 24, the accused persons assaulted Arti with a pestle causing serious injuries. They admitted Arti to Jamshedpur Sadar Hospital claiming that she fell in the kitchen. The doctors referred her to Rims but her in-laws got her admitted to Tata Main Hospital where she succumbed to injuries on Dec 25. Arti's father, Vigan Ram, had registered an FIR on December 28.The deceased's husband, Sanjiv Kumar, was out of station when the incident occurred. The police is questioning him.
