Jamshedpur Hotels Switch to Electric & Charcoal Amidst LPG Crisis

Jamshedpur: Hotels in Steel City have swiftly switched to electric stoves, and other conventional wood and coal challahs to overcome the commercial LPG supply scarcity.

Officials at tourism department-run The Kannelite hotel in Sakchi said that with only two days’ stock of LPG left, it has shifted to alternative avenues. The hotel’s menu has also been altered.




“As a makeshift arrangement, we have built two conventional clay stoves and placed orders for the raw materials. Currently, we started using the heavy-duty electric stove and charcoal grills,” said hotel director Nirmal Singh.

Owner of a multi-cuisine restaurant in Bistupur, Goldy Bhatia, said that electric oven has replaced their LPG set-up in the kitchens. “We dish out Chinese, Mughlai and Indian food, but in the wake of the crisis, temporary changes are being made,” he said.

Hotelier Amlesh Jha said commercial LPG is the base of the food industry and its supply should be restored to ensure uninterrupted operations. “Hotels have scaled down menus and are dishing out light items like bakery products, sandwiches, chaat and litti chokha in place of puris and rotis,” Jha said.

Jamshedpur Hoteliers Association (JHA) president Ravish Ranjan told media that due to the acute shortage of the commercial gas, 50% of the hotels and restaurants are facing the shutdown threat. City-based Naresh gas agency manager Manoj Agarwal said that commercial gas supply is totally stopped as per the directions of the govt.
