Jamshedpur man, who sent job seekers to cyber scam hub in Bangkok, held
Ranchi: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday evening nabbed an accused in an international slavery case, who was related to trafficking job seekers from Jharkhand to a cyber scam compound in Bangkok and forcing them to participate in organised online fraud activities.
The CID on Wednesday said that the accused, Sartaj Alam, was arrested under Azadnagar police station limits in Jamshedpur with the help of local police. It may be noted that, so far, 15 people from Jharkhand were rescued in the case. Sartaj sent three among the 15 rescued job seekers, while the investigation was on to arrest other agents in connection with the case.
The CID said, “During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the arrested accused, in conspiracy with associates based outside India, recruited youths by offering them attractive overseas job opportunities and facilitated their travel and placement in cyber fraud operations.”The CID added that cyber fraudsters offered victims data entry jobs in Bangkok, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, adding that job seekers were asked to deposit money for their visa and travel.
The trafficked people from India were forced to work under harsh conditions for long hours, faced severe penalties, had their passports seized, and were restricted from leaving their scam centres.
