Man beats daughter to death in West Singhbhum

Jamshedpur: A man was arrested for allegedly beating his six-year-old daughter to death with a stick at Kheria Tangar village in West Singhbhum district on Saturday evening, police said.According to reports, Lal Singh Purty, 33, picked up the stick suddenly and started beating his younger daughter, Sonia, while she was asleep. Upon hearing the screams, Purty’s wife and his elder daughter rushed to Sonia’s rescue, along with neighbours.Purty also attempted to beat his wife and daughter and also chased some villagers in a bid to attack them. However, locals caught the accused, overpowered him, tied him to a tree and alerted the police.In the meantime, the girl’s mother and neighbours rushed Sonia to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries upon reaching the facility.“The accused was behaving in an erratic manner for the past few days as his mental condition is reportedly unsound,” Chaibasa sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Bahaman Tuti, stated.The body has been sent for autopsy. Further probe is underway, police said.
