Young woman’s body found stuffed in suitcase in Tamil Nadu

A decomposed body of a young woman, believed to be around 20 years old, is discovered in a suitcase under a bridge on Salem-Coimbatore highway. Police are investigating her identity and cause of death, suspecting she was killed elsewhere. The body is sent for postmortem.

SALEM: The body of a young woman was found in a suitcase under a bridge along the service road of Salem-Coimbatore national highway at Avarangampalayam in Salem on Monday evening. Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
Residents of Avarangampalayam had alerted their village administrative officer Jayakumar about a foul smell emanating from the vicinity of the bridge, which was adjacent to a private wedding hall on the highway.

On being informed by the village administrative officer, a police team went to the spot.
"A team led by district superintendent of police Gautam Goyal, deputy superintendent of police S Raja and police inspectors Karthikeyini, Baby and Senthilkumar reached the spot. They came across the suitcase under the bridge while combing the area. They found the woman's decomposed body inside," a police officer said.
Preliminary inquiry suggested that the woman might have been murdered elsewhere. "Her body was subsequently packed in the suitcase, which was dumped here under the bridge," the police officer said.
Talking to TOI, the deputy superintendent of police said the woman might be around 20 years.
"We have shared the details with police stations nearby to check for reports of missing women. Efforts are on to trace her identity and the motive behind the murder." The body has been sent to Salem Govt Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for postmortem, which is scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
