EC team to assess poll preparations in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: Chief election commissioner AK Joti will lead an Election Commission team to the state later this week to assess election preparedness in the state, officials said on Tuesday.
The state goes to the polls early next year. “A team comprising chief election commissioner A K Joti, and election commissioners OP Rawat and Sunil Arora, will be visiting the state on December 22-23 to review poll preparedness in the state and to resolve any issues related to electronic voting machines (EVMs) and others,” the state’s chief electoral officer FR Kharkongor said.
After the EC completes its assessment, poll dates will follow soon, he added. On Friday, the EC team will meet superintendents of police, deputy commissioners and representatives of political parties.
The following day, the team will meet the chief secretary and the DGP, Kharkongor said. An EC team had visited the state earlier this month to review election preparedness.
