Shimla: At least 478 people were arrested and challans issued to 1,848 for driving under the influence of alcohol in Himachal Pradesh in the last two weeks.
Solan saw the most number (70) of arrests with 53 people being caught in the Baddi area of the district alone. Solan was followed by Mandi where 68 were sent behind bars for drink driving.
During its campaign against drink driving from September 24 to October 8, the Himachal Pradesh Police also recommended the suspension of driving licences of 685 offenders.

A total of 84,785 vehicles were checked across the state.
The aim of the campaign was to prevent drink driving, thereby reducing the number of road accidents in the state. Any case of drink driving should be reported to the nearest police station or simply by dialing 112, police said.
