The toll from suffocation in the aftermath of a fire in an embroidery unit in Anjani industrial estate at Amroli Sayan Road on January 29 has gone up to six with the death of one more worker.

SURAT: The toll from suffocation in the aftermath of a fire in an embroidery unit in Anjani industrial estate at Amroli Sayan Road on January 29 has gone up to six with the death of one more worker.
Mohammad Sharif was under treatment in a hospital. He died on Monday night. Four workers had died on the spot last Wednesday after the fire erupted on the ground floor of the building due to a short-circuit.

People from the first three floors of the building were able to get out, but 19 others on the fourth floor got trapped. Of these 19, four died from asphyxiation the same day and one later.
Police are still waiting for FSL report to initiate action against the owner of the building that did not have an emergency exit and was without any fire fighting equipment.
