Surat: A family outing during Uttarayan turned tragic when a motorcycle carrying three people fell of a flyover in Rander, killing all three members of the family.According to police, a man riding the motorcycle with his wife and daughter lost balance on the Chandrashekhar Azad flyover (Jilani bridge), causing all three to fall from a height of about 60 feet onto vacant land below. While the father and daughter died on Wednesday, the mother succumbed on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Rehan Shaikh (34), his wife Rehana Bibi (33) and their daughter Alisha Khatun (10). The family had planned to visit Subhash Garden in Mora Bhagan on Wednesday evening. Police said that while taking a turn towards Rander on the flyover, Shaikh lost control of the motorcycle and hit the railing, after which all three were thrown off the flyover.Rehan and Alisha died on the spot after being rushed to Zainab Hospital, while Rehana initially survived after falling onto an auto rickshaw parked below. She was later shifted to Mahavir Hospital, where she died on Thursday afternoon.Shaikh, who was from Hooghly district in West Bengal, worked at a jewellery shop in Surat where he made gold jewellery. Rander police registered an FIR and booked Shaikh for rash and negligent driving causing deaths. Initial reports suggested a kite string obstructed the rider, but police said no traces of string or cuts were found during the preliminary investigation. They have launched a probe to find the cause of the accident.
