Jackfruit fest from Friday

Thiruvananthapuram: Ananthapuri Jackfruit mahotsav, jointly organized by Jackfruit Promotion Council and Shantigram will begin on Kanakakunnu palace premises on July 22. The festival will have exhibition and sale of varieties of jackfruits from within and outside the state.
Local varieties of jackfruit such as 'then varikkka', 'chembarathi varikka', 'nadan varikka', 'mullan chakka', 'koozha chakka', 'kottu varikka', etc.will be on display.
A food court that exhibit over 300 varieties of dishes made of jackfruit will be the speciality of the event. Chakka thali meals with over 10 curries made of jackfruit will be the highlight of the festival. Jackfruit sambar, jackfruit pulissery, jackfruit parippu curry, jackfruit perattu, jackfruit chilly, jackfruit chammanthi, chakka varatti, chakka upperi are some of the dishes. A chakka payasam will also be served along with the meal.
Not just meals, the exhibition will offer varieties of evening snacks made of jackfruits.
