Thiruvananthapuram: Fort police arrested a man involved in multiple theft cases across the state capital and neighbouring districts. Police have arrested the accused
Sreekanth, 40, a native of Kakkamoola in connection with the theft of a bike from Killipalam area. According to a complaint filed by Biju, the owner of the bike, his vehicle was stolen while it was parked along the roadside on Saturday.
Police examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused. Meanwhile, the police received a tip-off that the accused was planning to flee to Tamil Nadu with the stolen bike. A police team soon apprehended Sreekanth from within the city limits, following a dramatic chase.
According to police, Sreekanth primarily targeted bikes parked unattended along roadsides. During nighttime, he broke into unoccupied houses and carried out thefts before escaping to other states, where he reportedly led a lavish life using the stolen money and valuables.
Police have recovered around 66 sovereigns of gold ornaments, Rs 67,000 in cash, two mobile phones and the stolen bike from the accused. Sreekanth confessed that the gold ornaments were stolen from houses within the jurisdiction of Kattakada and Maranalloor police stations.
Police said Sreekanth is a habitual offender listed in the criminal register of Vizhinjam police station. He has 26 theft cases registered against him across several police stations, including Nemom, Thampanoor, Fort, Karamana, Poonthura, Valiyathura, Kanjiramkulam, Vilappilsala, Kattakada, Kollam East and even in Tamil Nadu.
