TRICHY: In yet another chain-snatching incident, bike-borne men snatched two gold chains weighing eight sovereigns from a 60-year-old woman near Palpannai in Trichy. Though the incident took place on Thursday, the woman, M Santhakumari from Vishwas Nagar 2nd street, lodged a complaint only on Friday.
Police said that Santhakumari reached Palpannai bus stop from Kumbakonam after attending a funeral at around 2pm on Thursday.
She was walking on the road opposite Nalli apartment near Palpannai. A masked man in the age group of 30 years approached her. He asked the woman for an address to a hospital. The woman said she had no idea and tried to leave, but he snatched her two gold chains each weighing four sovereigns.
As the woman raised alarm, the man ran and hopped on to a bike that was waiting for him. Both of them escaped from the spot in few seconds.
Santhakumar lodged a complaint with the the Gandhi market police.
It was the second such incident to take place the same day. A couple of bike-borne men snatched the chain of M Maria Michael, 45 of Lalgudi when she was walking near Aristo roundabout at 1.30pm.
