Trichy: Govt girls higher secondary school for the visually impaired in Puthur has once again scripted success by achieving a 100% pass rate in the recently declared Class 12 public examinations, marking the eighth consecutive year.
The residential school, functioning under the department for the welfare of the differently abled, caters exclusively to visually impaired girls and offers education from classes 1 to 12. At present, 74 students from different districts across Tamil Nadu are studying in the institution.
This year, 16 students from the school appeared for the Class 12 examination and all of them cleared the exams successfully. R Nandhini from Virudhunagar district emerged as the school topper by securing 547 marks. She also scored a centum in history. N Divya from Pudukottai district secured the second rank with 509 marks, while M Devadarshini, also from Pudukottai, came third with 507 marks.
Speaking about the achievement, sources from the school said that students are provided with Braille textbooks, uniforms, footwear, school bags and assistive devices such as audio players, magnifiers and Braille watches free of cost. They added that admissions for the 2026–27 academic year are currently under way and appealed to parents of visually impaired girls to make use of the facilities and opportunities offered by the institution.
