Hotel manager drowns in Cauvery, body found after 2 days

Trichy: The body of a 22-year-old man who drowned in the Cauvery river earlier this week was found near Mayanur barrage on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as T Gugan, from Aranthangi in Pudukottai district. He was working as a manager at a private hotel in Erode. On Sunday, he attended a family event in Sriramasamudram in Thottiyam taluk in Trichy district. After the event, Gugan went to bathe in the Cauvery river near the village.While bathing, Gugan was swept away. His friends and relatives began searching for him. They could only find his mobile phone and footwear on the riverbank.On Tuesday, locals spotted a decomposed body surfacing in Mayanur barrage and alerted the Kattuputhur police. Police arrived and retrieved the body. They confirmed it as Gugan's and sent the body to the Musiri govt hospital for postmortem. It was later handed over to his relatives.A case was registered at Kattuputhur police station under BNSS Section 194 (unnatural death). An investigation is in progress.Earlier on Saturday, a 21-year-old student named K Raman drowned while bathing in the Cauvery river near Kambarasampettai. His body was found near Thirukattupalli in Thanjavur district on Sunday.
