Upset with exam failure, student ends life
Vadodara: A 19-year-old student of the Polytechnic College of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda allegedly died by suicide at his residence on Ajwa Road on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Kiran Makwana, left behind a suicide note and recorded a few videos before taking the extreme step.
According to police, Makwana had been distressed over his poor academic performance. “He had failed in a couple of examination papers and was deeply upset over it. Before taking the extreme step in his room, he sent a few videos to his sister,” said D D Ladumor, police inspector of Bapod police station.
In the videos, Makwana reportedly praised his sister and said that he was “tired.” He apologised to his parents and urged his younger brother to study well.
In his suicide note, he mentioned that he was unable to cope with his studies and was disturbed by his exam failures.
Police said he also requested his parents not to argue and to take care of themselves.
The incident came to light on Saturday evening when his mother went to his room and found him hanging from the ceiling. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that academic stress was the primary reason behind the suicide,” Ladumor said
