VADODARA: Finance and petroleum minister of the state, Saurabh patel, on Sunday performed the ground breaking ceremony of the first public library that will be maintained by the city's civic body – Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
During his address at the event, Patel said, "It is encouraging to see that the VMC envisioned to build a library for the public in this city.
This reminds all the local governing bodies that open spaces and plots are not for building housing schemes only."
He further added, "The government along with the local civic bodies is dedicated to improve the quality of living also. Public utility services such as libraries are a major step forward."
Member of Lok Sabha from the city, Ranjan Bhatt, also participated in the event. "Libraries are cornerstones of an educated, informed and aware populace. We are already fulfilling the dreams of 'Gatisheel Gujarat', but now we have taken a step towards ‘Vicharsheel Gujarat' with the library, "Bhatt said. The library will be built on a budget of Rs 40 lakh in the Gotri area of the city.
City based citizen group Tree Lovers Association volunteered to plant saplings near the proposed spot of the library. The association was also said that they would donate close to 300 books to the library along with three book shelves to provide a better a kick-start of the facility.
