VARANASI: Twelve persons, including a woman, were killed in separate road mishaps at different places in
Azamgarh on Sunday.
According to reports, the marriage process of Atul Rai of Saraipaltu area under Gambhirpur police station had gone to Kharkauli on Saturday evening. After attending the wedding, 12 baraatis were returning home on a jeep. When the jeep was passing through Bariyarpur under Bardah police station in the wee hours, the driver failed to see a truck coming from the opposite direction due to thick fog.
The truck collided with the jeep after which seven baraatis, including jeep driver Ishwarchand Rai (35), Akhilesh Rai (40), Ajit Rai (15), Pawan Rai (15), Ritik Rai (12), Sudhanshu Rai (16) and Samir Rai (15), died on the spot.
Five injured persons were rushed to Azamgarh district hospital where Mohan Rai (46) and Shilpa Rai (16) died during the course of treatment. On noticing that the condition of Ajai Rai was serious, doctors referred him to some hospital in Varanasi while the condition of Umesh Rai and Goldy Rai was stable.
In another road mishap, an auto driver Iqbal (35) was killed when a truck hit his auto near Amodi area under Mubarakpur police station on Sunday morning. He died on the spot. Other injured passengers including Nasim, Sufiana, Muzaffar, Shabir, Mumtaz, Aarti and Sohagi were rushed to district hospital with serious injuries. Besides, Mewad Singh (50) was killed when a truck hit his bicycle in Gambhirpur police station area on Sunday morning. Earlier, on Saturday night, a motorcycle hit Dhanawatinear Khalispur village under Jiwanpur police station. She was admitted to district hospital where she succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning.
One killed in Bhadohi: At least one woman was killed in a road mishap near Piyari village under Aurai police station in Bhadohi district while several other passengers sustained serious injuries when an auto-rickshaw turned turtle.
According to reports, some natives of Chuppeypur locality were heading towards Vindhyachal in Mirzapur district in the newly purchased auto of Manoj Patel. When the auto was passing through Piyari village, the auto driver lost control and it turned turtle. Sukrala (55) died on the spot while 10 other passengers sustained serious injuries. They were admitted to a local hospital.
