Goddhoya drain project to be completed by June 15: CM

Gorakhpur: CM Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that the ambitious Goddhoya drain rejuvenation project in Gorakhpur will be completed by June 15, with a grand inauguration ceremony planned thereafter. The CM made the announcement after inspecting the project works at Jungle Chhatradhari zero point and the Bichhia sewage treatment plant (STP).Addressing residents near the Bichhia STP site, Yogi said the project under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme would provide major relief from waterlogging to nearly half of the city before the monsoon. He described waterlogging as one of Gorakhpur’s biggest civic challenges, contributing to mosquito-borne and water-borne diseases for years.Officials of the Urban Jal Nigam informed the CM that the Rs 495 crore project has achieved nearly 95% physical progress. So far, 9.25 km of pucca drain construction has been completed, along with a 38 MLD sewage treatment plant and a 61 MLD pumping station, both currently under trial run. Out of the proposed 17.94-km intercepting sewer line, 17.5 km has already been laid, while 14 bridges and culverts have also been completed.Yogi said the once-polluted Goddhoya drain, which earlier carried sewage and caused severe waterlogging before flowing into Ramgarh Tal, is now being transformed into a modern drainage and water-management model. He added that separate underground sewer and drainage lines have been developed to ensure that only treated water flows through the drain.
