Varanasi: The vital parameters of renowned classical vocalist Padma Vibhushan Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, who was shifted to the ICU of SSL Hospital of BHU on Saturday, showed signs of stabilization and improvement on Monday.
According to a medical bulletin issued by the hospital on Monday, Mishra is currently on non-invasive ventilator support and is receiving appropriate antibiotic therapy, insulin, and other supportive treatment measures. The 89-year-old maestro was admitted to the ICU on Sept 13 in a critical condition. He has a history of Type-2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and benign prostatic hyperplasia. During his illness, he developed bed sores complicated by septicemia, and is presently diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome and deep vein thrombosis.
Medical superintendent Prof Kailash Kumar said his condition continues to be closely monitored by a team of specialist doctors. "We request all well-wishers to pray for his recovery and kindly respect the privacy of the patient and his family during this time," he added. TNN
Mishra has been ailing for the past seven months. A distinguished Hindustani classical vocalist, he was one of the proposers for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2014 parliamentary elections. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan in 2010 and later the Padma Vibhushan in 2020. In 2015, he was also named among the ‘Navratnas' nominated by the PM for the Clean India Campaign.
