Mumbai experienced a rain-soaked Monday morning, causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas such as King’s Circle and Matunga market, prompting the IMD to issue a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad. Overnight and morning showers led to water accumulation on railway tracks at Kurla and Bandra, causing local train delays. The downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, inundated several parts of the city. Colaba recorded the highest rainfall at 88.2 mm, followed by Bandra (82 mm) and Byculla (73 mm). Heavy rain, poor visibility hit Pune flights; airlines issue advisories

The Pune airport was a picture of total chaos and confusion due to multiple flight delays and diversions since the late night hours of Sunday due to continuous rains which affected visibility. A total of 14 flights belonging to different airlines were diverted while several delayed between 12am till 8am causing chaos at the airport due to heavy crowding. Flyers were the end sufferers and they faced major inconveniences due to the same. As Kunal Ranjan, who was flying along with his family from Ranchi on an IndiGo flight said, “The flight couldn’t land in Pune and was diverted to Ahmedabad. After around 2 hours, it took-off again and came to Pune but again couldn’t land and went back,” he said.

Mumbai Rains Live: City flooded after 12 hours of heavy rain

Mumbai reeled under a pounding 12-hour spell of rain between 11 am and 11 pm on September 14–15, with three localities crossing the 200 mm rain mark — Sewri (205 mm), Fort (204 mm) and Grant Road (200 mm). Close behind were Worli which notched up 198 mm, Dadar recording 191 mm and Malabar Hill at 174 mm. The intense downpour led to water logging in many low lying areas.

Maharashtra Rains Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert (heavy rainfall of over 64mm) for isolated places in the ghat areas of Pune and the neighbourhood on Sept 15. The Met department has also sounded a yellow alert till Sept 18 for isolated parts across Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha.

Incessant rains and waterlogging disrupted traffic across Mumbai on Monday morning, prompting the IMD to issue a red alert, warning of very heavy showers in the city and surrounding areas over the next few hours.

The downpour, which began around midnight with thunder and lightning, continued into the morning, submerging low-lying neighborhoods including King’s Circle, Lalbaug, Worli, Dadar, Parel, Kurla, and nearby areas.

For the next 24 hours, the IMD has predicted "cloudy sky with heavy to very heavy rain" at isolated places in the city and suburbs with a possibility of thunder and lightning, besides gusty winds at a speed of 30-40 kmph, a civic official said.

As per the civic body's rainfall data, the island city recorded an average rainfall of 111.19 mm, followed by 76.46 mm in the eastern suburbs and 74.15 mm in the western suburbs in the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Monday.

The IMD has also issued an 'orange alert' for Palghar, Pune, Ahilyanagar and Beed districts, forecasting heavy rains there, while the rest of Maharashtra is expected to receive light showers or remain dry.
