The rumors of an immediate US-Iran peace deal have just been shattered. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has dropped a major reality check on ongoing backchannel negotiations. Tehran confirmed that while talks mediated by Pakistan are actively happening, a final deal is nowhere near. Baqaei revealed that the current emergency meetings are solely focused on stopping the active Gulf war, completely ignoring the nuclear issue for now. Issuing a fierce warning to Europe over fresh sanctions for blocking the Strait of Hormuz, Iran declared: "We are not powerless—any hostile action will face a reciprocal response."
