: The festival of Rakshabandhan was celebrated with fervour
across the city on Wednesday. Sisters tied sacred thread (rakhi
) on the wrist of their brothers after performing puja
. Siblings exchanged good wishes by offering sweets, chocolates and gifts on the occasion. Due to full moon, some people celebrated the festival on Tuesday night only. Meanwhile, brisk sale of gifts, rakhis
and sweets were witnessed throughout the day. Whereas, children associated with Vishal Bharat Sansthan tied rakhi to the trees at Shashtri Park, Sigra area. The NGO also celebrated the festival among Hindu and Muslim people on the occasion.
Members of another NGO, Sankalp celebrated the festival by tying rakhi on the wrist of orphans at Ramkatora area. Religious functions were also held across prominent temples including Kashi Viswanath Temple and Sankat Mochan Temple.
Earlier, a number of devotees took a holy dip in the Ganga, in spite of the rise in water level, as the day marked the conclusion of Shrawan month.
