VIJAYAWADA: Announcing that he will donate his organs, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday announced that the state government will explore possibilities of linking driving licences with taking pledge for
organ donation.
Addressing Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) on the occasion of Organ Donation Day in the Secretariat, the CM said that the organ donation campaign needs to be intensified.
He said the government might introduce lessons on the importance of organ donation in academic curriculum.
The MEPMA officials handed over 1.20 lakh organ donation pledge letters to Jeevan Daan of NTR Health University in Naidu’s presence. Rakesh Varma, India Book of Records representative, said this massive pledge would be recorded in India Book of Records. The NSS volunteers and NTR Health University officials also took part in the organ donation campaign.
Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao said the organ donation campaign needed a shot in the arm. He urged the government to provide incentives to organ donors and said a discussion on the subject is likely to be included in the Assembly sessions.
Later, he presented mementoes to MEPMA officials for carrying out the organ donation drive.
