Tirupati: Sri Sathya Sai district police busted a cricket betting racket in Hindupur, arrested three persons and seized Rs 13.2 lakh cash from their possession. According to Hindupur addl SP KV Mahesh, Hindupur rural CO Chandra Anjaneyulu and his team acted on specific information and conducted a surprise raid at a den near Thumukunta industrial area, where they caught the accused red-handed while they were involved in cricket betting activities.
The accused were identified as Sandeep Kumar Reddy (32), Thimma Reddy (33) and Y Srinivas Reddy (37). Hindupur police booked a case u/s 9(1) of the AP Gaming Act.
Preliminary police interrogations revealed that the accused turned to these anti-social activities in a bid to make easy money to fund their personal vices.
Warning repeat offenders, the additional SP stated that anyone found consistently participating in or facilitating such operations will face stringent organised crime charges under Section 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
