Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh govt is set to introduce a common portal for higher education admissions from next month, allowing students to apply for multiple courses through a single platform. Currently, students have to register separately for admission into different courses.
The proposed system aims to bring all admissions for higher education courses under one umbrella and simplify the process for students. Commissioner of higher education M Nara Hari Bharat Gupta said students will be able to create a single profile on the portal and use it to apply for multiple courses. Based on their academic details and marks uploaded on the portal, they can also check the courses they qualify for.
According to Gupta, the portal will also include Aadhaar-based verification, automatic retrieval of students’ details, and reduce the need for repeated uploads of certificates and other documents during admissions.
Apart from streamlining admissions, the govt is also planning to use the platform as a student data tracking system to monitor academic progression from school to higher education. Officials said the proposed system is intended to maintain students’ education records and give authorities insights into whether they are continuing their studies after school, going for higher studies, or dropping out at any stage.
Gupta said the initiative follows directions from education minister Nara Lokesh, who has told officials to ensure that student education data is tracked systematically from school to college level under a unified framework. The govt is planning to roll out the system from next month as part of broader reforms in the state’s higher education sector, officials said.
