TG Bharath lays foundation stone for 20-bed Thalassemia Centre in Kurnool

Tirupati: In a major boost for regional healthcare, Andhra Pradesh industries minister TG Bharath laid the foundation stone for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Thalassemia centre at the blood bank premises at Kurnool on Saturday. The upcoming 20-bed facility, named “TG Venkatesh Bhavan,” is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.50 crore and aims to provide vital, regular blood transfusions to patients across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.

To mark the birthday of his father, former Minister and MP TG Venkatesh, Minister TG Bharath announced that the TG V group shall extend a donation of ₹1 crore for the establishment of the new Thalassemia centre and handed over an initial cheque of Rs 25 lakh to the Red Cross Society.

He requested the executors to complete the construction within three months. The minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to transform the Kurnool govt general hospital into a world-class medical facility, besides developing a ₹60 crore Knowledge centre with the support of medical college alumni.

Supporting the medical initiative, Kurnool MP Bastipati Nagaraju announced the allocation of Rs 9 lakh from his MP funds to purchase a specialised “Microtome” device for the Kurnool Cancer Hospital. He lauded the project as a historic milestone that will significantly extend the lifespan of those battling the genetic blood disorder.

Earlier, minister T G Bharath also organised a mass marriage for 80 couples on the eve of his father’s birthday and handed out cheques of ₹80,000 for every couple besides organising their wedding free of cost
