VISAKHAPATNAM: A youth from the port city braved mountainous terrain, sub-zero temperatures, and bad roads to conquer the world’s highest motorable road - Umling La, situated 19,024 ft above sea level. He covered 9,000 km during his adventurous Vizag-Umling La-Vizag trip. Now, he has set sights on the K2K trip, means
Kashmir to Kanyakumari, in March or April next year.
Umling La is located near the city of Leh in Ladakh region. Generally, bikers complete this trip using above 350 cc bikes, but the 26-year-old Vizagite Pratha Srivatsav completed it on a 200 CC bike which makes the feat even more remarkable. He accomplished his mission in 29 days. Srivastav, the younger son of HPCL employee Srinivasa Rao, started travelling following in his father’s footsteps.
Srinivasa Rao used to travel a lot across the country even with family. He started his journey from
Vizag, and reached Umling La via Vijayawada, Manchiryala, Sagar, Noida, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Srinagar, Son Marg, Kargil, Lamayuru, and Leh. “On average, I drove 400 km to 600 km per day. The longest was Agra to Adilabad, 1,100 km, in the return leg on a single day,” he told TOI.
