Visakhapatnam: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (
BSNL) is rolling out 4G services as part of indigenous technology in line with govt’s Atmanirbhar policy. As part of it, the undivided
Visakhapatnam which includes Anakapalli, Alluri Sitarama Raju districts will have around 1,000 mobile 4G towers by the end of this year.
According to the records, 420 mobile towers of BSNL already exist in the undivided Visakhapatnam district, and another 680 mobile towers would be set up to get 4G services as early as possible.
All these 420 existing mobile towers would be upgraded to 4G mobile towers soon.
"This is to provide high-speed internet facility to each village, even in the interior pockets of the district," BSNL Visakhapatnam circle general manager Williams told TOI.
BSNL has been attracting mobile users from other networks, including Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, and others. Around 20,000 new customers from other networks were added to the 4.3 lakh customers of BSNL network, including four lakh pre-paid customers, in July alone in the district. Of them, a majority of customers shifted through mobile number portability (MNP).
The district officials said that the number of customers would cross five lakh by the end of December. BSNL has planned for 1.12 lakh towers for 4G and 5G services across the country..
