Visakhapatnam: In a major haul, Anakapalle district police seized 912 kg of dry ganja worth over ₹50 lakh and arrested two persons near Gullepalli junction under Sabbavaram mandal in the district.
The arrested have been identified as B Tharun (22)of Janagam district in Telangana, and Sethi Males Rao (24) of Malkangiri district of Odisha.
Anakapalle district police chief Deepika M said that based on credible information, the Sabbavaram police, led by inspector P Ramana, intercepted the truck which was heading towards Sabbavaram from Kothavalasa of Vizianagaram.
Upon verifying, the cops found a fabricated cabin in the truck, in which the accused persons stored the contraband, she added.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that a gang procured the banned substance from parts of the tribal pockets in Malkangiri district of Odisha. Five more persons are involved in this case and a special team has been formed to nab the remaining accused.
In another incident, the Vizianagaram district police seized around 300 kg dry ganja near Kothavalasa. However, the drug peddlers abandoned their van and fled from the spot. Efforts are on to nab them.
