By Siva Gorripati VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Metropolitan Magistrate J Padmavathi on Monday sentenced Selim Hazrat Mandal alias Salem of West Bengal to eight months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 200 for deceiving Vizag local youth for selling US Dollars with lowest price.
According to Senior Assistant Public Prosecutor Mylapilli Adinarayana, the accused Hazrat Mandal approached the victim Chintagunta Nagaraju , an auto driver by profession, and two others at RailwayStation on December 13 of 2022 and said that he would sell US Dollars for an amount of Rs 2 lakhs instead of the actual amount of Rs 5 lakhs .
On believing the words, victims had paid 80, 000 at Pandumpullala Sandhu and took a cotton bag filled with newspapers. Another victim Narendra Kumar paid Rs. One lakh at Poorna market on November 22 of 2022. They lodged a complaint at One Town Police Station. Police investigated and filed a charge sheet. The prosecution proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
