The release of the final answer key does not mean that the result has been declared. The National Testing Agency (NTA) publishes the final answer key first after reviewing all objections raised against the provisional version of the Joint Entrance Examination (Main). This key only confirms the correct answers that will be used for score calculation.
The actual result is prepared after applying the marking scheme and normalisation formula. The scorecard will show percentile scores, qualification status, and other details. Candidates must wait for the official result link to access their final scores.

JEE Main 2026 session 2 registrationIn the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), the raw score and percentile are different measures. The raw score is the actual number of marks a candidate gets based on correct and incorrect answers, including negative marking. This is calculated using the final answer key released by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The percentile, however, is a relative score. It shows the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or below a particular candidate in a specific session. JEE Main is conducted in multiple shifts, so NTA uses a normalisation process to ensure fairness across different papers. Admissions and ranking are based on percentile, not raw marks. Therefore, two candidates with similar raw scores may have slightly different percentiles depending on their session’s performance level.

When questions are dropped in the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), it means the National Testing Agency has removed them from evaluation due to errors or ambiguity. These questions are not assessed normally. Instead, full marks are awarded as per policy, usually to candidates who attempted them, and no negative marking is applied.
