Guwahati Central assembly election results 2026: Vijay Kumar Gupta wins for BJP, registers 61,921-vote lead

In Guwahati Central, Vijay Kumar Gupta of BJP secured a landslide victory, polling 1,01,297 votes and defeating AJP’s Kunki Chowdhury by a margin of 61,921 votes. AAP’s Anurupa Dekaraja finished a distant third with 1,939 votes, as the constituency delivered an emphatic mandate in favour of BJP. In Assam's Guwahati Central BJP's Vijay Kumar Gupta is facing AJP's Kunki Chowdhury. AJP is in alliance with Congress.Guwahati Central Assembly Constituency is a newly created Assembly constituency in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district, formed after the 2023 delimitation exercise that reshaped the city’s electoral boundaries.The new seat has been carved out by reorganising parts of the erstwhile Guwahati West constituency. As part of the exercise, the old Gauhati East seat was abolished, while Guwahati West was redrawn to create three new urban constituencies, Guwahati Central, New Guwahati and Dimoria.For the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP has fielded Vijay Gupta from the Guwahati Central seat.
