NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four states going to the polls, counting is well underway in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry with leads shifting as rounds progress. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat assembly, NDA holds a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69 more, crossing the majority mark on current trends. Congress and its allies are at a tally of 22, all leads, while independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively account for a tally of 7. In Tamil Nadu, the majority mark stands at 118 in the 234-seat house. SPA has a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leads, while NDA's tally stands at 55, all leads, and needs 63 more to reach the majority mark. Independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively lead in seats adding up to a tally of 115, still 3 short of the majority mark. In West Bengal, BJP leads the 294-seat contest with a tally of 179, having won 11 and leading in 168, crossing the majority mark of 148 on present trends. TMC trails with a tally of 106, comprising 2 won and 104 leads. Independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively account for a tally of 8 in the state. In Puducherry, NDA has a tally of 18 in the 30-seat assembly, with 13 seats already won and leads in 5 more, crossing the majority mark of 16 if these leads hold. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 won and 3 leading, while independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in the union territory.
