Kerala assembly election results: 'Comedian' Pisharody has the last laugh in Palakkad

Congress candidate Ramesh Pisharody scripted a dramatic victory for the party in the Palakkad assembly constituency, amid a tough challenge from BJP and several controversies during the campaign. Pisharody was fielded at a time when the party was under pressure following a sexual misconduct allegation against outgoing MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, which had triggered widespread public debate. On the other hand, BJP had strengthened its foothold in the region after retaining power in the Palakkad municipality, putting UDF on the defensive. Despite being mocked as 'a comedian', Pisharody turned the narrative around with a focused and energetic campaign, connecting directly with voters. The result was decisive. He defeated BJP candidate Sobha Surendran by 13,147 votes in a high-stakes triangular contest.
