Tollywood actress Rupanjana Mitra reacts to Arindam Sil’s suspension over sexual misconduct allegations; Says, ‘I was right four years ago’

A fresh set of #MeToo allegations has had Tollywood rocked. Popular Tollywood filmmaker Arindam Sil has been accused of sexual misconduct on a film set by an actress in the Bengali entertainment industry. The filmmaker was suspended for an indefinite period by the Directors Association of Eastern India (DAEI) based on sexual misconduct allegations. A female actor of the Bengali entertainment industry came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Arindam Sil a few days ago. The actress claimed that she was subjected to sexual misconduct on the set of a project directed by Sil. She alleged that the director asked her to sit on his lap and kissed her on the cheek while posing to explain a shot. The complaint was filed with the state’s women’s commission. On Friday, Arindam Sil appeared before the Women’s Commission and issued an apology. However, this isn’t the first time allegations of sexual misconduct have been levied against the director. Tollywood actress Rupanjana Mitra accused Arindam Sil of the same, four years ago.

Rupanjana Mitra revealed that the decision of DAEI had restored her faith and boosted her confidence. The actress mentioned that the director behaved inappropriately with her during a script-reading session. Rupanjana alleged that he had hugged her with ill intentions and made her thoroughly uncomfortable in a hotel room.
Rupanjana had spoken about the incident in 2020. However, it has been quite a difficult journey since then for the actress, especially as a single mother. Rupanjana mentioned that her son Rian was an infant back then and she had to face a lot of heat for speaking up against such a ‘powerful’ filmmaker of the industry. Rupanjana revealed that her projects were significantly chopped off after she came out with the sexual misconduct allegations against Arindam Sil.

However, Rupanjana said that she never deferred from the path of truth and had faith in destiny. Why did it take such a long time for the concerned committee to take substantial action against Sil? As per Rupanjana, everything depends on the right timing. However, she is relieved that an action has finally been taken against the director.

After the suspension by the DAEI, an FIR has been lodged against Sil at Bishnupur police station, South 24 Pargana. The shoot of the project was being held at a resort in South 24 Pargana, which is near the Bishnupur police station. Hence, the FIR has been filed at the said police station.
