Weekend roundup: Bengali films and celebs who made headlines this week

With the news of Parambrata directing a science fiction, Jeet releasing the first poster from his next ‘Panther’, ‘Bornoporichoy’ release preponed, the Bengali film industry enjoyed quite some action this week. If you have missed the exciting news, gossips or latest developments that have rocked Tollywood, here is a quick look at the weekly roundup for you. ‘Bornoporichoy’ to release on July 26

Mainak Bhaumik’s ‘Bornoporichoy’ which sees Abir Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta sharing the screen for the first time is an intense suspense thriller. Since its announcement last year, the thriller grabbed the attention of all the Bengali movie buffs, especially for the stellar cast. Produced by SVF, initially ‘Bornoporichoy’ was slated for a Puja 2019 release but now here’s a piece of exciting news. You don’t have to wait that long as the Abir-Jisshu starrer is set to hit the theatres on July 26. Beside Abir and Jisshu, the thriller also stars Priyanka Sarkar in the lead.

Jeet sets sight on 100 films

Jeet’s recently released ‘Shesh Theke Shuru’ marks his 50th film and the Tollywood superstar is delighted to achieve this feat. However, with his 50th film running at theatres Jeet has now set his sight on 100 films. I always believe in setting up goals. It helps you stay focused. Patience and perseverance is the key. I strongly feel if can’t complete 100 films in my career I am an underachiever. If I have 4 films in a year then after 13 years I would easily complete another 50 films. You can portray a hero at any age if mental and physical fitness is there,” said Jeet.

Mimi’s pre-wedding bash For Nusrat

There have been so many speculations about Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan's relationship. These two Tollywood actresses are tipped to be the biggest contender of each other. However, they have stayed friends all along. Recently, the pair became MPs winning the Lok Sabha election. Now that Nusrat Jahan is all set to tie the knot, Mimi Chakraborty arranged a grand gesture for her. Mimi arranged an elaborate treat, ‘Aiburo Bhat’ for Nusrat. Mimi cooked various delicious dishes for her bestie who will get married on June 19 in Turkey.

Parambrata to direct a sci-fi, ropes in Koel

After ‘Shonar Pahar’, Parambrata Chatterjee has announced his next directorial ‘Bony’ based on a novel by renowned author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay of the same name. The upcoming sci-fi thriller, being produced by Surinder Films, has an ensemble cast including Koel Mallick, Anjan Dutt and Kanchan Mallick. Parambrata too will be seen in a pivotal role. The story of ‘Bony’ revolves around a Bengali couple settled in Italy with their mysterious newborn baby, an American born Bangladeshi scientist and a middle class Bengali clerk. Music for the film will be composed by Anupam Roy.

Jaya Ahsan to play a serial killer

Jaya Ahsan, who has become a household name in both corss border film industries - Bangladesh and Tollywood, will soon play a serial killer in Arindam Sil’s upcoming ‘Troyilokyo’. ‘Troyilokyo’ is tipped to be a bilingual project in Bengali and Hindi. Tota Roy Choudhury is set to play one of the leads alongside Jaya. Set in the mid-19th century Bengal, Jaya will essay the role of a Bengali woman Troyilokyo who is a serial killer. She is deeply associated with her partner and love interest Kalibabu, a con artist who has all the skills to become invisible without any trace. Tota Roy Choudhury plays Priyonath Mukhopadhay, a detective who hunts for this criminal jodi and also recorded the journey of Troilokyo in the first Bengali crime periodical in the form of a journal titled as Darogar Daptar No 78. ‘Troyilokyo’ will go on the floors before Durga Puja.

Soham and Priyanka to share the screen in ‘Protighat’

Rajiv Biswas is all set to direct his upcoming film ‘Protighat’ which stars Soham Chakraborty and Priyanka Sarkar in the lead. The film narrates a passionate love story where plot of the entire film revolves around Priyanka’s character while it involves a revenge and local politics. Darshana Banik and Supriyo Dutta will also be seen in important roles. Darshana is also sharing the screen with Soham in yet another upcoming comedy flick ‘Hullor’ directed by Abhimanyu Mukherjee but they won’t been seen as a couple in ‘Hullor’. For those uninitiated, this is Soham-Priyanka jodi’s second film after ‘Amar Aponjon’.

First look poster of Jeet’s ‘Panther’ released

His latest release ‘Shesh Theke Shuru’ has received mixed reactions at the box office and now here’s a big surprise from Jeet to his fans and followers. We all know the dashing Tollywood hero will be back to his action avatar in his next ‘Panther’ being directed by Anshuman Pratyush under the banner of Jeetz Filmworks. To double your excitement, here’s the first-look poster from the action flick. The poster will surely pump up the patriotism inside you as Jeet can be seen saluting the national flag. The film is expected to release in August.

Adil-Paoli star in Pratim’s short film ‘The Departure’

The Adil-Paoli story in Pratim D Gupta’s last year release ‘Ahare Mon’ seems to have found a new life in a short film titled ‘The Departure’ which has now been selected at the prestigious KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival. Directed by Pratim himself the screening of ‘The Departure’ will take place this Saturday, 15th June, at Liberty Cinemas, at 2.45 pm under the Rainbows of Hope section. The short film traces an unusual relationship between a frequent flyer and an immigration officer in a society still struggling with caste, age and sexual orientation.

Saayoni Ghosh in a horror comedy

After the critically acclaimed thriller ‘K: Secret Eye’ and yet to be released ‘Rohoshyo Romancho Series’, director Abhirup Ghosh is all set for yet another project titled ‘Brombhodoityo’. The story revolves arounda young research scholar Sayantika played by Saayoni Ghosh who researching on some supernatural figures is found in Bengali folklore and fairy tales. Things get messy when she orders a vintage Brombhodoityo on a mysterious website. What happens next forms the crux of the film. ‘Brombhodoityo’ also has Anindya Chatterjee, Sourav Saha, Soumen Bose, Soumalya Dutta in pivotal characters. Rudranil Ghosh will be seen in a cameo.

Rittika, Rupanjana to star in a thriller

Barshali Chatterjee who recently directed a Hindi suspense thriller ‘The Darling Wife’ is now all geared up for a Bengali thriller ‘Black Day’ revolving around the subject of time lapse where it doesn’t move forward and stuck at a same time. Rittika Sen plays a tomboyish character in this romantic thriller. Rupanjana Mitra will be seen as a super model. Since it’s a full on thriller, the pretty actress won’t be revealing much about the story. Joy Roy plays the male lead in the film. ‘Black Day’ will go on floors on June 16.
