Har Har Byomkesh: Complete cast revealed

The case of the missing sleuth has finally been solved. For his much-anticipated reboot of the franchise, titled Har Har Byomkesh and based on the novella Bohni-patanga, Arindam has roped in a host of powerhouse Tollywood and Bollywood actors. Abir Chatterjee will play Byomkesh Bakshi, returning to a role that made him a big-ticket star in three earlier Anjan Dutt films. What’s more, Abir will also continue playing Feluda, which makes him the only actor to hold the portfolios of two of Bengal’s most-loved fictional detectives today.“To me Abir was, is and will be Byomkesh. Pierce Brosnan has played James Bond, but that hasn’t stopped him from playing an investigator in other films. In fact, when I asked people on social networking sites about who they wanted to see as Byomkesh, 95% named Abir,” reasoned Arindam.

Sohini Sarkar will play Byomkesh’s wife, Satyabati. "As for Sohini’s casting, when I told Sujoy Ghosh about it, he said it was bang on! Satyabati is intelligent, educated, romantic, poised and smart and Sohini meets all these requirements,” informed Arindam.
Sohini Sarkar on her casting: Is there any actress who would not love to play Satyabati? Bengalis love her and I feel happy to play Byomkesh’s wife. Satyabati is poised and has a great personality. She loves it that her husband, who solves all sorts of mysteries, depends on her a lot.

Ritwick Chakraborty will slip into the shoes of Ajit. “Ajit is more intelligent than Watson and has a mind of his own. He is not only a writer, but a man who experiments with his life and career. No one but Ritwick can bring alive a character with so many shades," said Arindam Sil.
Ritwick Chakraborty on his casting: I am happy and excited to play Ajit in Byomkesh, which is an all-time favourite series. To me, Ajit is more than just a friend who helps the sleuth solve mysteries. There are many shades to the character. I will interpret the character in my own way.

Aditi Rao Hydari is slated to play the important character of Shakuntala.
"Shakuntala is a headturner of the then society of Benaras. She is intelligent and beautiful, yet elegant and poised. She is a brilliant painter who also knows horse riding. I needed an actress who could do justice to this effervescent character. I wanted someone who was not Bengali and had the right Hindi accent. Then, on my way to Cannes earlier this year, I met Shoojit Sircar at the airport and over a glass of iced tea, the discussion turned to Shakuntala's character. That is when he suggested that I should approach Aditi Rao Hydari, and I felt that was it! Later, Sujoy Ghosh shared her number with me. When I contacted Aditi, she loved the story. I guess both Sujoy and Shoojit had spoken to her about my work and about this film, so she was quite aware of it when I spoke to her," said Arindam.

Shadab Kamal, who made a splash in B.A. Pass, will be seen as the police officer Ratikanta.
Shadab Kamal on his casting: I liked the script, particularly my character Ratikant Choudhury. He is a dynamic and honest police inspector and an assistant to Purandar Pandey. It is one of the most pivotal characters and I am looking forward to it (though I haven’t signed on the dotted line yet). I am from Kolkata and if all goes well, this will be my first Bengali venture.

The other actors who will be part of the film are Dipankar De, June, Rajesh Sharma, Joydeep Kundu, Pradip Rai, Subrat Dutt, Indradeep Das Gupta and Rachel White. While Bickram Ghosh will do the music, Soumik Halder will be the cinematographer. Though the looks of the characters have not been decided yet, Arindam stressed that Abir as Byomkesh will be different from his earlier avatar. “The character has a physically active lifestyle, so even though he’ll wear dhoti-panjabi, he will not look like a babu. My Byomkesh will be young and smart,” he said.
Indraadip Das Gupta on his casting: I did a cameo in Obhishopto Nighty but here, Debnarayan Singh — the character I play — is quite important. So it is a challenge for me and I completely depend on Arindam to help me throught it. Debnarayan is always doped and that is just the opposite of what I am in real life! So, it will be quite an adventure!
