Watching Paayel Sarkar shop is a dizzying experience. And after the four ‘rush’ hours CT spent with the bubbly actress in New Market, the dizziness had turned into exhaustion. But exhausted Paayel was not; not even close. In fact, she was busy reliving the rush of nostalgia that the sights and sounds of the market had triggered.“I remember those childhood days when I used to come here with Ma to buy clothes for Puja. I had to buy the Asthami and Nabami clothes from here, as we wore our best on those two days and New Market offered the best,” said the actress, while popping into Nahoum's for a bite, like she does every time she visits the market.

Digital prints are a rage this Puja, be it in western or Indian wear. And Paayel had to own one, she told us. “I love this digital print kurta (Rs 1,150) from New Amrapali. The colour too is to die for!” added the girl, who is set to turn heads in it on a day out with friends on Saptami. “I’m sure my friends too will love it,” she said.

The actress said buying shoes from the market always was and still is a craze. “I remember how I used to plead with Ma to buy me a shoe with heels. She would invariably refuse and I had to compromise with moist eyes. But those days were really fun,” Paayel said, adding that she loved the market because of the affordable prices.“I have a shoe wardrobe to myself, but still I go weak in my knees when I see a lovely pair. I am happy about today’s buy — four pairs of heels (around Rs 1,500 each) from Florence,” winked the actress.
What’s her choice, hunks or cosmetics, we asked Paayel. The girl didn’t take a minute before announcing — cosmetics! “I buy lipsticks (starting at Rs 250), nail polish (Rs 75 onwards) and branded perfumes (Rs 2,500 and above) as if I am doing grocery shopping!” Paayel took an hour to stock up at The Royal Store. Attagirl!

Paayel’s best Puja gift is a white Dhakai from Bangladesh. “Ma gifted me one and since then, I have been looking for a blouse with heavy Gujarati work. This one from Dream Girl’s Fashion (Rs 1,350) is beautiful. You can team it up with a solid colour sari, be it chiffon or handloom,” said Paayel.
Blue is Paayel’s latest craze, the girl confided. “I read in CT that blue is the colour of the season, and I didn’t mind taking a cue. Won’t I look pretty in this blue kora silk (Rs 8,150) from The Bombay Silk Stores when I wear this on Ashtami?” asked the petite actress. We couldn’t help but agree more.

“I have a thing for multi-coloured zari borders (Rs 70 per metre) with dexterously done embroidery, available at Mallika Collections. They also keep lovely latkans (Rs 50 a pair). I buy them at one go and use them later while making kurtas or blouses,” quipped Paayel.
Shopping for a girl is incomplete without buying jewellery and Paayel picked four rings (starting at Rs 2,280) from Chamba Lama. Classy yet cool!

Paayel has recently moved into her new house and this festive season, decking up her home is of prime importance to the girl. To lend an ethnic touch to her den, Paayel is adding new artefacts almost every day. “I couldn’t resist buying this beautiful sculpture (Rs 1,500) from New SW Crockery Shop. I will keep it in one corner of my balcony, where there are loads of plants. Isn’t that a great idea?” she chirped, while gorging on a partry from Nahoum's.
