The script comes from David Koepp, who previously collaborated with Spielberg on War of the Worlds. Koepp wrote the screenplay for Disclosure Day based on an original story by Spielberg. His earlier credits include 'Jurassic Park,' 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park,' and 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.'

Spielberg has long been associated with stories about extraterrestrial life. Beyond War of the Worlds, his earlier classics Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial explored encounters with alien life from a more hopeful perspective. With Disclosure Day, he appears to revisit that territory through a darker lens, with media panic, possession, and secrecy driving the suspense.
