Ballet production based on One Thousand and One Nights to be staged in Bengaluru
The The Lewis Foundation of Classical Ballet will stage its latest production, A Tale of Dreams and Destinies, on April 11 and 12 at the Prestige Centre for Performing Arts.
The production, the institution’s seventh in-house ballet, is based on a story from One Thousand and One Nights. It has been ideated, choreographed and produced in India, and is positioned as part of ongoing efforts to expand the presence of classical ballet in the country.
The narrative follows a thief who comes across a magical lamp and a princess seeking to explore life beyond her palace. Their journeys intersect as they navigate challenges in pursuit of a shared goal.
According to organisers, the production will feature over 180 performers, including senior dancers from the institution and members of the National Youth Ballet. The staging will include more than 280 costumes, along with designed sets, props and a varied musical score.
The April 11 show will be held as part of an outreach initiative, with around 1,000 children from non-governmental organisations invited to attend. Two public performances are scheduled for April 12, with a matinee at 12:30 pm and an evening show at 5:30 pm.
