Archana Puran Singh opens up about laughing through tragedy after mother-in-law’s passing: 'My husband Parmeet Sethi understood, you can’t leave work incomplete'
Archana Puran Singh, who is known for her various roles in films and TV shows including The Kapil Sharma Show, recently shared a poignant experience about having to put on a brave face and continue working in the entertainment industry, even on one of the toughest days of her life. While recalling a deeply emotional moment, Archana spoke about how she had to complete an episode of a show despite receiving the devastating news of her mother-in-law's passing.
In an interview with Instant Bollywood, Archana revealed, “I think I had almost completed the episode; I was halfway through when I got the news about my mother-in-law’s death. I was getting goosebumps thinking about it, so I immediately said, ‘I have to go,’ but at the same time, I knew I had to finish the episode. The team told me to just sit there and give laughter, and they would edit it wherever there was a joke.”
Reflecting on the surreal situation, Archana said she continued laughing, despite her mind being consumed by the loss. “Now imagine what’s going on in my head—my mother-in-law has just died. How did I laugh? I don’t know. It’s been 30-40 years in this industry, and you know the producer's money is at stake. You can’t leave work incomplete,” she explained.
Her husband, actor Parmeet Sethi, also understood the professional demands of the situation, though it took him a moment to process everything. “It took him 15 minutes, but I know I couldn’t see anything. I just knew there was a mic, action, and I laughed, and laughed, and laughed and then I said, 'Someone will be so lucky that after listening to this news, they’ll be forced to laugh.'”
In another interview, Archana said that her acting ability has not yet been tapped. However, she doesn't regret not being given more opportunities to pursue acting. "I've been beautifully blessed with this 15-year-long journey of comedy. Agar mein filmein kar rahi hoti, toh shayad meri yeh journey na hoti. I've noticed that filmon mein itna lamba career muskil hai," she had shared.
On the work front, Archana Puran Singh is currently seen in the 2nd season of The Great Indian Kapil Show.
