Bollywood’s rich wedding saga- tracing love and revelations through generations of women

Bollywood is the epitome of grandeur when it comes to weddings. Bollywood weddings are extravagant events that combine tradition and fantasy, featuring everything from gorgeous lehengas, dramatic ceremonies, and emotional moments to regal palaces and picturesque settings. Here’s a list of movies that feature different variations of a big, fat Indian wedding.

2/6

Veere Di Wedding (2018)

A bold, contemporary tale of four childhood friends navigating love, marriage, career, and identity. The movie follows the life of these 4 friends as the grand wedding of their friend, Kalindi, approaches. Set against the backdrop of lavish décor, luxury lehengas, and high society grandeur, this movie is blended with moments of self-discovery, laughter, and tension.

3/6

2 States (2014)

The movie revolves around Krish and Ananya, a couple who meet and fall in love in college. Now their biggest problem is their families, with cross-cultural traditions and norms. After countless clashes, awkward silences, and tearful conversations, two very different families finally come together—not perfectly, but willingly. Set in Chennai, the wedding is simple, soulful, and full of warmth. It gracefully blends the Punjabi enthusiasm with Tamil elegance.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

The movie follows a group of friends - Bunny, Aditi, Avi, and Naina, who come together for a trip to Manali, but as the trip comes to an end, so does their friendship. Years later, all of them meet at Aditi’s grand, week-long wedding in Udaipur. Set against the lavish backdrop, the wedding venue is adorned with flowers, fairy lights, and flowing drapes. The events like mehendi, sangeet, and haldi are shown and celebrated grandly, featuring famous songs like Kabira and Dilli Wali Girlfriend. It's more than simply a wedding; it's a moment of shift when bonds are tightened, truths are confronted, and love slowly finds its way back.

5/6

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018)

The movie follows two best friends, Sonu and Titu. Sonu is a protective childhood best friend of Titu, who has always kept him safe from heartbreak. Titu is the kind, naive guy who is eager to settle down. When Titu falls in love with Sweety, Sonu grows suspicious, as Sweety seems too good to be true. In Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), the wedding is a lavish, colorful event that is full of traditional glitz and tension. It reflects the beauty of a big, fat North Indian wedding with its lavish décor, lively music, and joyous festivities.

6/6

Shaandaar (2015)

The movie follows Alia, a free-spirited adopted girl, who meets the endearing wedding planner Jagjinder Joginder. As the wedding of Isha, Alia’s sister, grows near, the two families are at odds, while love blossoms between Alia and Jagjindar. The wedding in Shaandaar is nothing short of a fairy tale, blended with a wild ride. Set in a dreamy English countryside castle, the destination wedding features grand entries, choreographed dances, and glittering outfits.
