Bollywood actresses are going to rule the roost in 2020 and we have proof. From Deepika Padukone to Alia Bhatt and from Vidya Balan to Kangana Ranaut, female stars have packed some solid entertainment for next year and will give their male counterparts a run for their money. The female centric content planned for 2020 includes a real-life story - Deepika Padukone’s ‘Chhapaak’, a fiction drama - Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and a biopic - Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Thalaivi’ among others. Here’s taking a look at all the female-oriented films which are set to rock the box office next year.

Deepika Padukone in ‘Chhapaak’

Deepika Padukone will return to the big screen after her wedding for a real life, hard hitting drama ‘Chhapaak’. The actress has collaborated with ‘Raazi’ director, Meghna Gulzar for this film which will showcase the story of an acid attack survivor. The film is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor. The first look of Deepika as Malti in the film won hearts on the internet. ‘Chhapaak’ is scheduled to hit the screens on January 10, 2020 and will be the first big female centric film of 2020. Interestingly, Deepika is also producing 'Chhapaak'.

Alia Bhatt in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’

After much controversy, Alia Bhatt finally got the opportunity to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in female centric drama ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. The actress will be headlining the project as a powerful, respected brothel madam from the 1960s. ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is based on a chapter from the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ by Hussain Zaidi. While Alia plays the titular role, reports suggest that Ajay Devgn may also join the team as a gangster who falls in love with Gangubai. The film is scheduled to hit the screens on September 11, 2020.

Kangana Ranaut in ‘Thalaivi’, ‘Panga’ & ‘Dhaakad’

Come 2020 and fans of Kangana Ranaut will be in for a treat as the actress has three massive releases planned for next year. First off she will be seen playing a kabaddi player in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s sports drama ‘Panga’, which will release on January 24. Post this; Kangana will step into the shoes of actress turned politician, late Jayalalitha. Titled ‘Thalaivi’, the film will release in multiple languages on June 26. And lastly, Kangana will unleash her action avatar in ‘Dhaakad’, which is planned to hit the screens in October 2020.

Vidya Balan in ‘Shakuntala Devi’

Vidya Balan has been at the forefront when it comes to female-centric cinema. The actress set a trend in Bollywood and continuing with it, Vidya will soon be seen playing the titular role in ‘Shakuntala Devi’. The actress has expertly transformed into the ‘human computer’ and the first look left everyone impressed. The biopic will explore the brainy Shakuntala Devi who was often referred to as a mental calculator. Directed by Anu Menon, the team recently wrapped up the film’s shoot. ‘Shakuntala Devi’ is being readied to hit the screens in May 2020.

Tapsee Pannu in ‘Thappad’

Following in the footsteps of Vidya Balan is Taapsee Pannu, whose filmography boasts movies where the female character has been the champion. From ‘Pink’ to ‘Badla’ and ‘Saand Ki Aankh’, this actress is unstoppable. Come 2020 and Taapsee will be seen playing the lead in Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Thappad’. The film explores the dynamics of man-woman relationship, from a female’s perspective. 'Thappad' is slated for release on March 6, 2020.

Janhvi Kapoor in ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’

One film old Janhvi Kapoor is all set to shoulder the responsibility of an important female character with her next, ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’. The actress will portray India’s first female IAF pilot, who evacuated injured soldiers during the Kargil war in 1999. The actress looks smart in an Air Force uniform in the biopic which is directed by Sharan Sharma. Bankrolled by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is scheduled to hit the screens on March 13, 2020.
