'Dhurandhar' music breakdown: 'Ramba Ho, ‘Ari Ari,' songs reprised in Ranveer Singh's espionage drama for a perfect score
'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' Review
‘Na Toh Karwan Ki Talash Hain’
While most mistook this song to be sung by Arjit Singh, this was actually voiced by Shahzad Ali. Let’s not forget the ‘spy in Pakistan memes’ this song inspired, which flooded social media feeds. Later, people came to know that this popular number is actually the reprised version of a Qawali. The original version of the song featured in the retro movie ‘Barsat ki Raat’ (1960). It had the voices of legendary singers like Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Mohammed Rafi, and others. The lyrics were penned by Sahir Ludhianvi, and the music was originally directed by Roshan.‘Na De Dil Pardesi Nu’
Even before ‘Dhurandhar’ made its way to the theatres, this Punjabi banger created a buzz. The rap by ‘Hanumankind’ (Sooraj Cherukat), coupled with the raw voice of Jasmine Sandhu and Sudhir Yaduvanshi, brings magic to the song. Also, the high-energy, modern Bhangra beats blended with intense hip-hop/rap percussion mixed with elements of trap music make it hard to ignore. But this power-packed track is a reprised version of an old Punjabi folk song. The original song was voiced by Mohammad Sadiq and Ranjit Kaur in the mid-1990s. The lyrics of the song were written by Babu Singh Mann. It recounts the pain of separation between two lovers and the heartfelt conversations they have in between. While this song has seen countless mixes over the years, it is this version by Shashwat Sachdev that has resonated with people the most.‘Ramba Ho’
Though in the movie, Hamza’s character is seen dodging and firing bullets at a party, in the original version of the song, it's a party scene. The original version of the song was released in 1981 for the movie ‘Armaan’. It was voiced by Usha Uthup, also known as the ‘lady with the baritone’. The music track for the song was composed by Late Bappi Lahiri, and the lyrics were penned by Indeevar. And who can forget Kalpana Iyer’s sensuous, energized dancing that swooned the audience. Even years later, when Kalpana danced again on this famous disco song at an event, netizens applauded the septuagenarian’s enthusiasm.‘Ari Ari’
When the trailer for ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ dropped, apart from the impeccable editing, this high-energy track gained popularity among the audience. But this is again a reprised version of the 2003 number by ‘Bombay rockers’, the Indo-Danish duo (Navtej Singh Rehal and Thomas Sardorf). It was a part of their debut album ‘Introducing’. The band worked with producer Janus Barnewitz and combined Punjabi vocals with English pop, which made the song popular even overseas. The lyrics of the song also have an old Punjabi folk song ‘Bari Barsi’, which is generally sung at weddings.‘Tama Tama Loge’
Sanjay Dutt’s popular dance number 'Tama Tama Loge' has been used differently in the second part of ‘Dhurandhar’. The song originally features Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit. Also known as India’s first fully computerized song, it was created by ‘king of disco pop’ Bappi Lahiri for the movie ‘Thanedaar’ (1990). The lyrics were penned by Indeevar. It was later adopted for the movie ‘Badrinath ki Dulhaniya’ featuring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. The track is played in the background during the assasination sequence of Sanjay Dutts Character, SP Chaudhary Aslam.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”end of article
