A fatwa has been issued against actor-performer Nora Fatehi over the controversial track Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, which also features
Sanjay Dutt. The song is part of the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil.
According to ANI, the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Aligarh issued the fatwa after the song drew backlash online over its lyrics and visuals. The religious body stated that the content was objectionable and not in line with Islamic teachings.
Centre confirms ban in Parliament
Amid the growing controversy, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed in the Lok Sabha that the song has been banned following widespread criticism. He was responding to a question raised by Samajwadi Party MP Anand Bhadouria.
The track has been under fire since its release earlier this week, with several organisations demanding action against those associated with it. Critics alleged that the song featured “vulgar” lyrics and visuals that objectified women, triggering a larger debate online.
Complaints were also filed seeking an FIR and the removal of the track from circulation, intensifying the controversy just days before it reached Parliament.
Nora Fatehi says she ‘relied on what the team told her’
Addressing the issue, Nora Fatehi shared a detailed video on Instagram, distancing herself from the Hindi version of the song.
“When I shot this song three years ago, I said yes to it because it was part of a big film. It was with a big icon, Sanjay Dutt—who would say no to working with him? He’s such an icon. And it was a remake, at least that’s what I thought, of ‘Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main’, which is also a very iconic song,” she said.
She further claimed that when the makers explained the meaning of the song to her, nothing seemed “inappropriate” or “vulgar” at the time. However, she clarified that she does not understand Kannada and had relied entirely on the team’s explanation.
