From Meenal and Sonu Nigam, Vijay and Rupali Ganguly to Manasi and Sharman Joshi: Celeb bro-sis pairs share their Raksha Bandhan playlists
Sonu Nigam (singer) The first song that our parents taught her to sing while tying the rakhi was Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana, which she sang with an innocent twist. She changed the lyrics and sang Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Pinaaade.
Meenal Nigam (singer and Nada yoga exponent) The song I remember the most is Kya Hua Tera Vaada, which my brother sang. He was also a child actor, so his song Saathi Tere Naam Ek Din Jeevan Kar Jayenge is also close to my heart. We used to listen to Geet Mala together, and love Rafi saab and Nazia Hassan’s songs.
Rupali Ganguly (actress) I’m a total drama queen on Raksha Bandhan, but that’s because I love my younger brother Vijay. I used to force and ultimately beg him to sing Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka for me every year. He would get flustered but sang it anyway. Another song that transports us to our childhood and reminds us of our dad (late director-producer Anil Ganguly) is Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re.
Vijay Ganguly (choreographer) As children, we could relate to all the songs from films directed and produced by our father. These songs helped us bond, while Rupali did force me to sing Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka.
Manasi Joshi Roy (actress) Growing up, we celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a big way and our maasi would always sing Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana. We are many cousins and so it would be sung on a loop, for each of us. I have the fondest memories of the festival and absolutely love it.
Sharman Joshi (actor) When our aunt would sing Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana on Raksha Bandhan, something hilarious would happen. She would get the lyrics wrong. She would mispronounce the line ‘Bhai ke ujle (illuminated) maathe par’ and would say ‘Bhai ke ujde (barren) maathe par’. Her sons, who spoke chaste Urdu, would freak out and we would have a great laugh, year after year. This funny memory resonates with us even today.
Abhimanyu Dassani (actor) Eye of the Tiger is on both our workout playlists; it’s the song we jam to when we are working out together.
Avantika Dassani (actress) One of the fondest memories that we share is watching the Rocky film series together as children. ‘Risin’ up, straight to the top. Had the guts, got the glory. Went the distance, now I’m not gonna stop.’ These unforgettable lyrics connect us with its energy and passion.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
