From Shah Rukh Khan to Karan Johar; Here are the Bollywood celebs who opted for surrogacy

While the debate rages on in the country whether commercial surrogacy should be banned, the Lok Sabha recently passed a bill which seeks to ban the practice. However, many Bollywood celebs have taken the surrogacy route to welcome the bundle of joy in their life. Here is a run-down of Bollywood celebs who opted for surrogacy to embrace parenthood.

​Shah Rukh Khan-Gauri Khan

Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan welcomed their newborn baby AbRam Khan via surrogacy on May 27, 2013. The couple, who were already parents to two children - Aryan Khan and Suhana Khan, who are in their late teens. Just like his father, AbRam has all the charm of SRK and not to forget the cute dimples of his father has already made his one of the most followed starlets.

​Karan Johar

Karan Johar became a proud father to twins - Yash and Roohi Johar after the director-producer opted for surrogacy. The twins were born on February 7, 2017. The name Roohi is a rearrangement of Karan’s mother’s name Hiroo and his son Yash has been named after his late father Yash Johar.

​Aamir Khan-Kiran Rao

Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao welcomed their newborn son Azad Rao Khan on December 5, 2011, via surrogacy. The couple got married in December 2005. Aamir is already a father of two children - Ira Khan and Junaid Khan, from his first wife Reena Dutta. The couple opted for surrogacy after Kiran suffered a miscarriage and developed uterine medical problems. The couple has openly promoted surrogacy.

​Tusshar Kapoor

Tushar Kapoor became a single parent to his baby boy Laksshya, via surrogacy. Laksshya was born on June 1, 2016, and became the first grandchild of Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor. Tushar, who is still unmarried, always wanted to adopt a child. However, the actor opted for surrogacy and so did his sister Ekta Kapoor.

​Ekta Kapoor

Producer Ekta Kapoor became a single mother to her son Ravie Kapoor on January 27, 2019, via surrogacy. The actress named her son Ravie after her father Jeetendra's original name. The filmmaker had been trying to get pregnant trying various methods for the last seven years and finally opted for surrogacy. She is also a doting aunt to her brother Tusshar's son Lakshya who too became a father via surrogacy in 2016.

Sunny Leone-Daniel Weber

Bollywood actress Sunny Leone and her husband Daniel Weber were blessed with twins after the couple opted for surrogacy. The proud parents named their baby boys Asher and Noah Weber. The twins were born in 2018. In July 2017, Sunny and Daniel had adopted the two-year-old Nisha from Latur, Maharashtra who they said they fell in love with at first sight.

​Sohail Khan-Seema Khan

Salman Khan’s younger brother and actor-director Sohail Khan and his wife Seema Khan decided to have their second baby, ten years after the birth of their first son, Nirvaan, who was born in 2000. The couple opted for surrogacy. Their second son, Yohan, was born in June 2011. The couple had tied the knot in 1998.

Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade and his wife Deepti embraced parenthood via surrogacy in May 2018. The couple named their beautiful daughter Aadya. The couple was married for 14 years together before they finally opted for surrogacy.

​Kashmera Shah-Krushna Abhishek

Actor-comedian Krushna Abhishek and his wife Kashmera Shah became proud parents to twin baby boys through surrogacy in June 2017. The couple opted for surrogacy after Kashmera failed 14 times while trying to have a baby. The couple named their twins Rayaan K Sharma and Krishaang K Sharma. The couple had revealed that Salman Khan had advised them and also supported their decision of opting for surrogacy.

​Lisa Ray

Actress Lisa Ray and her husband Jason Dehni welcomed their twin daughters - Sufi and Soleil via surrogacy in June 2018. Lisa who was a cancer survivor did not have an easy journey toward becoming a mother. The couple was first advised to pursue the process in India, however, their hopes were shattered when the country banned commercial surrogacy. The beautiful part of their parenthood was they became parents in their mid-40s.
