Happy Birthday Sidharth Malhotra: 5 movies that showcased the acting chops of this Delhi boy
Making his debut with Student of the Year in 2012, alongside Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra has slowly cemented his place in the industry, delivering some hard hitting performances along the way. As the actor, rumoured to be tying the knot soon, turns 38 today, here's taking a look at his best acts throughout his career, spanning across 12 years...
Shershaah
Portraying the gallant Vikram Batra, who was matryred in the Kargil War of 1999, Sidharth put in one of the most restrained performances of his career, without letting it turn jingoistic or caricaturish. As the brave soldier, who lets no fear ride over the love for his country, Sidharth won accolades for his act, even as real life partner Kiara Advani gave him company on screen, as the demure, yet strong Dimple, who stands by her man, even after he gave up his life for the country.
Kapoor & Sons
One of the best portrayals of a dysfunctional family, the movie is about estranged brothers Rahul and Arjun, who come together to visit their ailing grandfather, even as their parents are caught up in whirlwind tussle of their own. As the struggling younger brother Arjun, Sidharth held on to his own, even in front of stalwarts like Ratna Pathak Shah and Rishi Kapoor. Alia Bhatt, Fawad Khan and Rajat Kapoor co-starred in the family drama.
Hasee Toh Phasee
Nikhil is a struggling businessman, in a relationship with the hot- headed Karishma. Not one however to break hearts, Nikhil pursues the relationship, even planning to get married, that is until, Karishma's geeky, yet brainy sister Meeta enters and upends his life. Co-starring Parineeti Chopra, the light breezy movie is a pleasant watch and will perk up your mood on a bad day.
Ittefaq
The movie, though lesser known than Sidharth's other commercial potboilers is a solid modern whodunit. The movie is the story of a Vikram Sethi, an acclaimed British writer of Indian descent, who suddenly finds his wife dead in a hotel room. As he starts getting framed for the same, he seeks refuge in a young housewife's house, whose husband too, has been murdered! Co-starring Akshaye Khanna and Sonakshi Sinha, this one should be on your must watch list.
Ek Villain
Guru, a mercenary killer, decides to turn his life around when he falls in love and later marries Aisha Verma. However, their joy is short lived as Aisha is soon murdered by a serial killer, who kills hapless women when they are rude to him. Enraged, Guru decides to pull all stops to nab the killer, even if it means going back to his old ways. Co-starring Shraddha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh, this one was appreciated for the performances.
