Actor Jackie Shroff, fondly called Apna Bhidu, has often expressed his deep admiration for Bollywood legend Dev Anand. On the late star’s centenary in 2023, Jackie revisited his cherished memories with the screen icon and also revealed interesting tidbits about his life,, blending nostalgia with heartfelt reverence.He revealed that his mother, too, was a great admirer of Dev Sahab. Talking to IANS, he revealed that his mother often styled his hair to resemble the idol’s signature look.

Jackie recalled, “I met Dev Sahab 40 years ago, and it was magical, like a dream come true. My mom used to make my hairstyle like him. I nearly fainted looking at him.”

Jackie's dream role

Jackie visited Dev Anand's office and was thrilled by the presence of his idol. He also got a surprise offer, which was to play the second villain in the film 'Swami Dada' (1982).Remembering how Dev always greeted him warmly, the veteran star described the moment as surreal, as he said that he could never get over that dream. He also recalled how the veteran's forward-thinking nature, and constant zest for life left a lifelong impression on him.

Jackie further shared his admiration for classic films which include 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna', and 'Tere Mere Sapne'. “I can watch his films again and again,” Jackie confessed.What made their connection even more special was Dev Anand’s gesture of referring to Jackie as his “spiritual friend” in an autograph.
